The goal of the program is to, connect, empower and activate youth in protection and enhancment of biodiversity and to experience the river in adventurous way, through fun and engaging activities.
FOD Camps give opportunity for youth to meet their
peers along the Danube region, and to get in touch with
local environmental organizations.
The program is organized through theory & practice;
Guided workshops for youngsters, where they have the
opportunity to talk with experts form various fields:
Rangers from national parks, researches from biological
institutions, local tourists organizations, water
conservation experts, NGOs, etc. Practical education
consist of various activities, such as bird watching,
kayaking, trekking, tree planting, cycling, camping,
cooking...
The camps were organized in Valeri Eco Village in Moldova and at the source of the Danube, in Furtwangen, Black Forest. Main activities included trekking, cycling, birdwatching, intercultural activities, cooking national food, folk dances and sustainability workshops. The young people experienced and learned practical skills about the environment as well as cultural diversity of the Danube Region and built international friendships.”
The activities included trekking in the National Park Djerdap and learning about the forest ecosystem, with park rangers, kayaking at the Iron Gate, cyling, visiting Deliblatska sand dunes (one of the last remaining desrts in Europe), boat rides at Sremski Karlovci etc.
The camp was organized in Vukovar. The main activity was sailing on a local water bus along the Danube and learning about its biodiversity and culture The activity also included vists to main attractions of Vukovar such as a museum of Vučedol culture, an ancient danubian culture.
The very firs FOD camp in Bulgaria was a full-size adventure. The main activities took place arounfd the Rodope mountains, where youngsters had the opportunity to learn about the nature of the area: vists to the cascade lakes, Jaogodinska cave, waterfalls. The trip also included playing various team building games while learning about the Danuibe region.
In cooperation with Carpaterra Association specialized in nature protection and local sustainability, youth was engaged in team building activities in Racos region; preparing local dishes and leraning about local food, played board games related to Danube and learned about the region. Activities include treasure hunt, an educational game to collect some knowledge of the local area. The group went on hiking through the hills, visiting the lake, the vulcano and the Racos Columns. Youngsters also were guided by an expert in nature activities.
